As a result of recommendations following Proof of Concept Trials Fort AP Hill Virginia USA September 2004 MineBurner has been fully developed as a highly sophisticated reusable device to provide low cost UXO neutralisation with non-Hazardous shipping and storage properties.

Features:

  • High temperature flame penetration of Mines, including steel and wood cased.
  • Surgical precision minimises risk of high order detonation.
  • Oxygen locally extracted from atmosphere using battery operated AirSplitter.
  • Uses locally available LPG (Cooking gas).
  • Robust case with 5 metre hose to nozzle.
  • Remote wireless Firebox with Individual coded initiation signal.
  • Up to 20 targets burnt simultaneously.
  • Safety siren sounds loud warning before flame ignition.
  • Safety features include transceiver feedback on flame ignition.
  • User friendly fully automated gas recharging.
  • Ultra low cost per burn.

MineBurner Technical Information

Air Compressor
12v DC electrical supply from standard vehicle battery powers tyre pump with built in regulator to provide compressed air to AirSplitter and Compressed Air Bladder.

AirSplitter
PSA (Pressure Swing Absorption) technology separates and dumps nitrogen from atmospheric air to provide 95% pure oxygen at the minefield site to be stored in the Oxygen Bladder. Ruggedly encased in purpose built portable enclosure containing rechargeable 12-v power supply. Accessible input air cooler, filter and dehumidifier and output oxygen filter and regulator allows easy routine maintenance. Battery/isolate switch for transport.

Bladder Assembly
3 bladders store gases separately. Flexible durable PU construction with single input/output tube connected to one way valve.
0.5 litre filled from canister LPG to atmospheric pressure at minefield site.
2.5 litre of Oxygen from AirSplitter stored at to 0.4 bar (5.8-psi) differential.
2.5 litre of compressed air to drive the other gases.
All Bladders contained together in strong stitched seam outer cover.

Ignitiator
Radio transceiver and electronics control three solenoid valves to open gas supply through regulators to mixer and on through delivery hose. Also switches on spark generator and delivers spark to nozzle to provide ignition.
Activation: Toggle switch, including test function
Warning Cycle: 1-minute audible alarm. Abortable during warning cycle
Abort procedure: From remote fire unit, or on unit (on/off switch)
Flame Ignition: Spark generator, 10 sparks per second, until flame detection
Flame Feedback: Continuity measurement, flame causes open-circuit
Shutdown: Valve shutdown if no flame after 60 seconds
Oxygen Boost: Increase oxygen supply 20 seconds after flame detection
Power: 12 VDC, sealed lead-acid battery (1.3 Ah) Battery isolation SW.

RF Link
Link Type: Two-way transceiver
Carrier Frequency: 868 MHz
Modulation: Frequency Shift Keying (FSK)
Command Length: 32 bits per command
Operational Distance: 300 m line-of-sight (tested to over 350 m)

Remote FireBox Unit
Authorisation: Key switch, key not removable in “ON” position
Activation procedure: Simultaneous operation of two buttons required
Button description: Robust, tamper-proof, metal switches
Abort procedure: Single press of abort button
Abort button description: Large, centre location, red
Status indication: 3 LEDs, “Low battery”, “Fire” and “Error”
Power: 12 VDC, 2 x 6V sealed lead acid battery (1.2 Ah)
Battery low condition: Below 10.7 VDC
Communication: Two-way (acknowledgement of each command)

Nozzle
Abrasion proof PU tube delivers mixed gases through flashback protector to Choice of
Reusable ceramic block containing reusable nozzle or
Low cost Disposable concrete block containing disposable steel tube.

Flame
2300 C Flame burns for 1 to 1.5 minutes.
Penetrates 1.5mm steel plate in 10 to 15 seconds.
Oxygen flow increases after 20 seconds for increased penetration.
Penetrates 75mm water saturated wood with 15-20mm hole.
